I used to be the kind of girl who could take off for a vacation at a moment’s notice. I would find a cheap hotel when I got to my destination. Or I would sleep in the camper of my pickup truck. I didn’t do a lot of planning for my trips and I didn’t demand great accommodations or attractions from the destinations where I traveled.

Then I grew up. I hate to admit it but I’m not really as spontaneous as I used to be. I suppose that I’ll still take a quick weekend trip without a lot of advance planning. But I’ll go online first so that I can book a vacation hotel before I get there. The hotel typically has a Jacuzzi in the room or a nice view of the city that I’m visiting or spa services on site. These are definitely things I didn’t get when I stayed at the No Name Motels alongside the road I was traveling ten years ago.

I suppose it is inevitable that our tastes change as we get older. I don’t lament the fact that I like nicer things now or that I have the money to stay in places with accommodations that I can appreciate. However, I do wish that I was a little more relaxed about traveling like I used to be when I was younger!
