My European Vacation

Haworth

Recently my husband and I took a trip to Europe.  It was my first trip overseas or even out of the lower 48 states, so that was very exciting to me!  England was our primary destination, although we also went on day trips to Edinburgh and Paris.

The highlight of the trip, at least for me, were the few days we spent in Haworth, which is where the Brontë sisters were from.  Since the Brontë sisters — Charlotte, Emily, and Anne — are my favorite authors and the subject of many research papers I have written, I have wanted to see Haworth for many years now.

This trip was hugely important to me, not only because it was my first trip out of the country, but also because it was a sort of a pilgrimage to Brontë country.  However, I don’t expect the next trip to have the same monumental significance.  In fact, we’ve been talking about where we’ll go next, and I’m leaning toward seeing one of the places in the Americas from my list.  I’m really interested in the Incan and Mayan history in Central and South America, so those places are possibilities.  And I’ve also heard some great things about Canada tours from my uncle and my brother-in-law, both of whom have been.  So while my husband and I wouldn’t be interested in the typical Canadian fishing vacation, we’ve been talking about looking into other possible Canada vacation packages.

Of course, we might also go back to Haworth on our next trip.  Having been there once, I’m fairly certain it will always be a permanent fixture on our list of places to visit!
