Last summer I went to spend a few weeks with my brother after he had just launched a new dog walking business. I figured that I’d roll up my sleeves and pitch in so I asked him for a project. He set me to work cutting flier sheets into halves for distribution. I figured that this would be an easy enough job and I told him that I was ready to dive in.

That’s when he pointed me in the direction of the guillotine paper cutter. You know, these are the manual paper cutters that you use when you want to cut small stacks of paper. You line up the paper and then raise the handle and slice it where you want the stack cut. There’s nothing wrong with these but they’re definitely not designed for big projects. The stack of fliers I had was huge.

That was when I decided that my donation to the new business would be the purchase of an electric paper cutter. The right machinery can vastly speed up a business and increase productivity. There would often be dog walking fliers to cut so it seemed like a smart investment. And just because I’m a nice big sister, I decided to get him a business card cutter, too!
