Features of a Bernese Mountain Dog

A friend of mine had been trying to figure out what breed of dog she had for years. She finally decided to get one of those tests done at her vet that would tell her exactly what type of dog she owned. It turns out that the dog is a mixed breed but it’s mostly a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Now that she knows what it is, she can tell that her dog does indeed have a lot of the features of this breed. Those features include:
- It’s a tri-colored dog. This dog has very distinguished coloring. It’s a black dog with a white chest and brown markings.
- It’s big and heavy. There actually aren’t a lot of dogs that are this large in size. On top of that, this is a heavy dog with a really heavy coat. These are distinguishing features of the dog that should’ve helped her figure out its breed.
- It has a broad head. In addition to sheer size, it is notable that this dog has a head which is particularly broad.
- It has a long, bushy tail. Her dog definitely has this trait!
It seems obvious what kind of dog she has now that she knows. At least now she knows, though, right?

Yeah, it’s interesting but not really that essential that she knows. All that matters is that it’s a good dog. And they say that mutts have better temperaments than purebreds anyway.

You could have probably guessed a few different breeds. It’s not that obvious. I had a dog that people either said looked like lab or retriever. But it was Lhasa Apso that gave her the long hair.

How funny! I had a dog that was half Lhaso apso and half dachsund. People said she looked like she had retriever in her, too! Mainly because she was good natured and nothing like those yippy two breeds.

It turned out to be a gorgeous dog! If this mix got rid of any undesireable traits or a Bermese Mountain Dog, then it would be fun to look into creating a brand new breed that looks like this.

How much does one of those breed tests cost? Seems like even teeth cleaning is so terribly expensive that I just shudder to think what it would set me back to have my dog tested this way.

I don’t know that it looks that obvious that it’s that breed of dog. I mean, it could also be a perfect combination of Rottweiler and St. Bernard. Besides, most people haven’t heard of the Mountain breed.

Some dogs are just impossible to tell. My best frend had this dog that looked like a giant, broken-coat Jack Russell terrier. It had terrier attitude, too. She guessed that it had Russian wolfhound in it, but who could tell?
