Credit Cards and Insomnia Can Be A Recipe For Disaster

I don’t know about you, but I like thinking outside the box when it comes to gifts. And, I love infomercials. Add to that, a touch of insomnia and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Of course, there are beneficiaries that appreciate my actions.

It goes a little something like this:

11:00 PM:  I’m watching Law & Order reruns.

12:00 AM:  I venture over to one of the home shopping channels. Before I know what’s happening, I am firmly engrossed in a segment on Smartware Bakeware – a super cool, super high-tech set of pans. “My mom loves to cook,” I think. Next thing I know, my credit card is out and I am placing an order.

2:00 AM:  I’m still not very sleepy. But I am transfixed by an infomercial. This one is peddling a hand-truck/dolley/ladder-in-one called the Total Trolley. “My brother’s got a move coming up next month. He needs this,” I think to myself.

3:00 AM:  I’m still planted on the couch. Only this time, I’m hypnotized by a commercial for some miracle pill called Alpha Calm. It’s supposed to help you relax. I take one look at the clock, another look at the TV, pick up the phone and think, “This one’s for me.”
