Questions to Ask when you Need to Find a Flatmate for a Flatshare

It’s never particularly fun when you need to find a flatmate for a flatshare. Sure, it can be exciting to think about the different people that you’re going to meet during the process. But it can also be nerve-wracking to try to select a person that you’ll actually want to live with.

Here are some of the questions that you should ask potential flatmates when they come to look at your rooms for rent:

  • Are you a morning person or a night person?
  • Do you frequently have people over to your flat?
  • What is your credit like? How often do you have problems paying your bills?
  • What types of things do you do for fun?
  • What do you do during your downtime at home?
  • What qualities annoy you in a roommate?
  • Why are you looking to rent a room right now? (You never know what problems they might have that will be revealed with the answer to this question.)

You should also think about anything personal that might concern you like religious preferences, grooming habits and musical passions. It can seem rude to ask so many questions but it’s better to be rude to a stranger than to have to deal with the problem once you live together.
