Managing HOA Fees is a Big Job

HOA managementI live in a town-home community and I participate in its homeowners association.  I retired from an accounting career a few years back so it seemed appropriate to help the association manage the fees.

When I first began assisting the association the community was only about half built so it was easy to manage the records.  However, now that the community is finished (and full) it has almost because a full time job.  As an accountant by trade I know how important it is to keep concise records and make sure the documents don’t get out of control.  Therefore, I recruited the help of some HOA management software I used to use in my profession.  The program helps me to see what dues have been paid and how much is available for repairs and upgrades.

Now that I have entered all of the information into our HOA website it feels more like a part time job again.  Also, should I decide to pass the responsibility to another member it is easy to explain and simple to pick up where I left off.  The association is happy now that they can get a quick snapshot of where we are financially and it helps our community prioritize what we need to tackle first.
