Sister

My poor sister had a major car accident on the island of Kauai. At eight o’clock in the morning she was driving to the airport to hop to another island and enjoy more of what the beautiful islands of Hawaii had to offer. She thought perhaps she would try swimming with the dolphins or attempt a turn at surf lessons. At seven that same morning, a drug dealer who spent an evening in jail was released from prison. He left his place of incarceration, obtained more drugs, and then by eight he was driving his Ford F150 pickup truck to make his next score. High on drugs the dealer careened his heavy vehicle down the single lane highway and while coming around a blind curve in her proper lane my sister met head on with the massive truck (the truck was in the wrong lane). Further insult to injury was the fact that another big truck followed too close behind my sister’s rental car slammed into the rear end of her car when the initial accident took place.
The airbags were a God-send however they only deploy once so they cushioned the blow of the first impact however the second impact whipped her body further and she broke her back in the lumbar spine (L4 and L5). Four years later my sister has made an amazing recovery and now can consider the vanity side of the accident. She has a long scar down her lower back and thought it would be nicer to add some butterfly tattoos or two dragon tattoos and make them appear seamless with the scar.

Wow, she should consider herself so lucky that she is still alive! Car wrecks are so terrifying! I had a really bad one a little over a year ago where I slid on some ice on the highway and slid into a huge sign. I am still scared to drive in the rain on the highway because of that!

I can’t believe that the drug dealer was already high on drugs right after getting out of jail! You would think that jail would make someone think about what they are doing with their life. However, I guess since he was probably addicted, it was the drugs making the choices for him…

Your sister is so lucky that the airbags were there to cushion the blow, even though they do only deploy once. I think airbags are one of those things we really take for granted until they save our (or a friend or family member’s) life. Thanks goodness for that invention!

I think that 2 dragon tattoos on each side of the scar would be a unique and cute idea. I think that dragons are more exotic than butterflies and could be more detailed. Hopefully that won’t hurt or irritate the scar tissue!

I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii, I’ve heard that it is so beautiful there. I wonder if the roads, as you describe, as are twisty as the roads I’ve experience while in the Rocky Mountains? Those can be SO scary.
