The Advantages to Having an Avid Reader

When I was a kid, I literally read all the time.  I read in class, at recess, and I’d even perfected the skill of reading while walking!  My teachers once told my parents at a parent-teacher conference, "We try to get everyone else to read more, but we need your daughter to read less."

While my case was pretty extreme, it is good for students to be avid readers.  I can remember how easy spelling and vocabulary units were for me, and of course English classes were a breeze.  When most of your school years are based on reading from textbooks, it really helps to actually like reading!

Unfortunately, enjoyment of reading is something not many kids today develop on their own, which is where Washington DC private tutors come in.  Don’t feel ashamed if you need to get a reading tutor for your child.  Public school education doesn’t always do a good enough job of teaching kids to read, so a Washington DC reading tutor can really make a big difference in your child’s education.

Before you protest that your child will learn the necessary skills eventually, consider this: Poor readers do poorly throughout school, and usually don’t get significantly better.  If your child is struggling, you owe it to him or her to hire a Washington DC tutoring service.  Not getting caught up NOW just forces him or her to continue dealing with the embarrassment and feelings of low self-worth that often accompany poor reading skills.
