My Friend Eve
Posted by bRev on 04/30/08 in Careers
A little over three years ago, when I was working at an awful technical writing job, I met someone who would become a good friend of mine: a graphic design artist named Eve. She worked at the same technical writing firm for a little while, but only to give her an income while she looked for a graphic design job.
Before meeting Eve, I didn’t know much about the graphic design industry. Knowing her and seeing her work heightened my awareness, however — and now, of course, as an Internet copywriter, I am extraordinarily aware of the major role that graphic design artists play, in the Internet and in business marketing.
There are a lot of good schools where one can learn about graphic design. For instance, Collins graphic design school, the International Academy of Design and Technology in Detroit, and IADT Tampa are all great examples of well known and widely recognized graphic design schools.
Unfortunately, graphic design is one of those careers that many people are discouraged from pursuing, because it supposedly won’t pay the bills. Eve would tell you otherwise. She works at a small graphic design company, and has been there for nearly 3 years now (she left the technical writing company we both worked for as soon as she got the job). She does quite well for herself, as can anyone else with the proper training and a good graphic design portfolio.
