Better Tennis Coaching Through Distance Learning

I was once a successful college tennis player, but at the professional level my career was short-lived.  The quality of play among the pros is much higher at a younger age.  After some thought and consultation with my coach and my parents, I decided to take another career track.

My undergraduate degree is in Exercise Physiology, and for the past few years I’ve been working as a coach at a top tennis academy that prepares juniors for the professional tour. So many kids come here absolutely certain they will be the next Roger Federer or Martina Hingis, and of course their parents are convinced of it as well, but the truth is the odds are stacked against them.  We only accept students who have talent.  Many kids drop out because they can’t or won’t work as hard as it takes; some don’t really want to be here, but their parents want it.  Becoming a successful professional tennis player takes tremendous passion, single-minded commitment and dedication because it is so competitive worldwide.

That means their training has to be the best; the academy demands a lot of its instructors and coaches, too.  Not only are we here to develop tennis skills and strategy, we also emphasize fitness training and performance enhancement.  For that reason, I enrolled in  Human Movement Online, which is listed as one of the Arizona School of Health Sciences Online Programs.  It has a sports conditioning track that will be useful.  One of my co-workers will be taking the Physician Assistant Program they also offer.  We’re both looking forward to starting classes.
