When you own a small business, you take precautions to protect your business from theft. You get a security alarm for the building where the business is located. You put security software on your computer to protect your data. But it doesn’t always work. Sometimes people break in anyway and steal things. What’s surprising is that they sometimes steal really strange things!

For example, did you know that paper shredders are an item that is commonly stolen from offices? The office shredder, particularly the high security shredder, can actually fetch a pretty penny when resold on online auction sites. Most businesses know that they have to protect major electronics like computers but they aren’t as vigilant about protecting things like shredders.

Other strange items that get stolen tend to be related to the specific business from which the theft occurs. For example, more than one person has stolen Botox from medical offices. And you would be shocked to learn that high-end pet supplies sometimes get stolen from doggie daycares. Strange theft items aren’t limited to just the towels at hotels these days! Almost anything that you can think of at any business has a market of buyers that could make the item worthy of theft.
