Accessories As A Negotiating Tool

After having my truck for sale for about a month on Craigslist online I finally had a guy come over who was truly interested in buying it and actually had the money to do it. Of course I had several people come and look at it who could in no way afford it, but I guess that is the nature of selling a nice truck like mine that has all kinds of extra truck accessories.
He spent about an hour checking it out, and even brought a friend with him who said that he was a certified mechanic. They spent a great deal of time under the hood, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. That of course made sense because I have never had any problems, and I have strictly followed the factory maintenance schedule.
So we go into my house so we can get this deal done, and he offers me $1000 less than what I was asking. My first reaction was to get mad and take it personally, but I did the best I could to shake those feelings right away. Instead of getting all upset I simply told him I would take that price, but needed to take off my color matched tonneau cover and the fancy chrome nerf bars first. It worked because he quickly was able to come up with another thousand bucks to make the deal work!
